Training Method - Classical Horses

This is the training method that I use with basically all of my horses. There are lots of other methods and approaches out there but I find that this works best for me.

Once a horse has finished foal games this is the method I follow to get Classical Horses blupped and bolded.

Remember to always do a lesson every day as well.

Training schedule:
  • Short Trot rides
  • Speed training
  • Dressage training
  • Showjumping comps to bold Speed and Dressage
  • Once you're not gaining anything from Showjumping comps complete the Jumping training
  • Cross Country comps
  • Once you've not gaining anything from Cross Country comps complete the Stamina training
  • Gallop and Trot comps until you're not gaining anything
  • Gallop training
  • Trot training
  • Long Steep Slope rides and Long Gallop rides to finish bolding
Following this I usually get my horses bolded and blupped by the age of 10 years. The horse usually picks up his 20 wins quite easily from the Showjumping and Cross Country comps. I then do Beach Rides if required.

  2. I have a question...right after you finish foal games, you can't do half of this stuff. So what do you do in the meantime?

    ReplyDelete
  3. You play with the companion - that's why I put that first.

Or if you don't have a companion that offers skills, do your Short Trot rides until your horse is 2 and you can start their training.

  4. What comps would be the best to get my 20 wins in for Aussies?? Thanks!! check me out gymunicorn on the international! :)

  5. how do you get it all done before 10 years it usually takes like 2 years for me to get one bar done

    ReplyDelete
  6. My horses tend to wear a Chronos Timer. It is still possible to BLUP quite easily without one by the age of 10 - but not to bold all skills.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Do you continue to play w/ a companion and do nothing else until there is no skill gain? Or do you just play with the companion until it is possible to start rides?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ideally keep playing with them until no more skills are gained - this will take you a few years though.

If you only want to BLUP do rides right from the beginning. You can do rides immediately after finishing foal games.

    ReplyDelete
  9. At what age should you stop playing with your horse and begin training it?

    ReplyDelete
  10. That depends on what you want to do with your horse.

If you're skilling it then you need to keep playing until you gain no more skills from the companion. If you're BLUPping only then start training as soon as you can at 2 years old.

  11. Does the order of what you do things still matter? I.e. groom -> 1,5 hour pasture -> train etc? Or is it arbitrary?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes the order does matter. If you train them without 100% morale it uses up more energy, so that's why you should groom at the beginning of the day.

If you feed them when they have more energy left, they gain more energy than if you feed them with no energy left.

It's best to have a play around and see what works best for you and your horses.

  13. Does this work with Friesians as well? They usually are Classical horses although I have seen people put them into Western Riding instead!

  14. If you are training a skiller(hope-to-be), how much longer does it take to reach 100BLUP?

    ReplyDelete
  15. How long do you do the dressage/jumping/etc training for? (ex. 1 hr 2 hrs 3 hrs ETC)

  16. i am using this method to train my horses and it is going very well now thank you a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi. I would like to thank you for this method. My only complaint is that without a C. Timer my horses are fully bolded and at 100 BLUP by the age of 13 years. Do you have any tips for me? Does using a WoY and C. Timer help or is it a waste?

Another thing all of my horses have 94+ stars yet their total skills never get to 2,000. I've looked at the top players horses and they have the same things as me yet they have over 2,000 in skills. Am I doing something wrong? If you could PM me your answers that would be great. On international howrse my username is diablogurl791. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  18. A Chronos Timer will always help as it means you can train twice as fast. I can BLUP a horse by the age of 10 but not fully bold them, so don't worry, you're not doing anything wrong.

Only use a WoY if you want your horse to gain more skills from lessons. I don't use one if I'm just BLUPping.

Your horses may have 94 stars but they will need to have top inborn skills in order to make 2000 skills. They would need to be bred with tears from 100 BLUP parents. You need to do lessons every day and using a WoY will double the gains from lessons. You also need to play with your horses companion so it gains the maximum 60 skills from that too.

  24. Hmm... not sure if the author is still around, but I have a question.

I have a 1 year and 8 month old Irish Hunter (1st Generation, from Gaïa and Ouranos). I've been doing 30 min in all three rides since she was able to do them, however, should I keep doing this until she can train, or no? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  25. answer for the 1 yr 8 month irish hunter breeder.
no, the author said when to do them in the schedule. (showjumping and short trot)... (cross-country and gallop and trot)... (long steep-slope and long gallop)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Would it be possible to update this now companions are no longer available?

    ReplyDelete

  30. This is the BEST training method EVER! My horse was BLUPed, fully trained, and BOLDed by 8 years old! Thanks soooo much for this!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Looks great! I used the foal training methods and it turned out beautifully! I am now going to use this on the same horse, but I wont finish before I run out of aging points! Ugh! Anyway, Thanx!

  32. Lucy:
My horses have been tending to take a lot longer BLUPing and bolding than I've heard it should. I'm wondering if this is because I'm doing lessons everyday. Is this the case?
    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi Blue - doing lessons shouldn't slow you down too much. I always do lessons with my horses as it gives you vital extra skills and equus!

A typical day for me: Groom, Water, Lesson, Turnip, Feed, Train down to ~2% energy, Stroke, Carrot.

Feeding your horse when it still has about 70-80% energy actually gives you more energy than if you feed at the end of the day.

Don't worry if it's taking a bit longer though. I can usually get horses without any BM items BLUPed by 10 years old but not always bolded. Remember if you use items like a Chronos Timer or Achilles Heel then that will speed up the training process.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is great! My mare with C.Timer was BULPed, Bolded and had 20 wins by exactally 10 years. I tried it with her foal who didnt have a C.Timer and it took till 18 years 4 months to full BULP, Bold and get his 20 wins.

  35. When you use a shower you can do 10hr dressage with CT that's 40, 40, & 20. What do you to on the last day?

  39. Does training a horse in dressage first work for Paint horses? Also, I have some good horses, but they don't ever win comps. I tend to breed paints, so I do a lot of gallop races. I have horses who have 600 skills at age 5 and still they get 4th and 5th with the occasional 2nd or 1st. This has happened with multiple horses. Am I doing something wrong? If you want to see an example of mine, go to international and search In Three Days Time, with no fancy letters. She is three and has 800 points, yet she often gets 4th or 5th. Thanks for the help!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Brought a foal today, followed through with these steps and she was completely bolded by 9 years and 8 months! Bulped as soon as she hit 10. Amazing, thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  66. This method is great! It worked for me! It was the first time I ever got a horse fully BLUPped and bolded in only 10 years. Thanks so much! Mine blupped exactly as she turned 10.
It helps, for those who have not found success in this method yet, to give your horse a Water of Youth, a Chronos' Timer, and Achilles Heel.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I used a method very similiar to this and it works great! I haven't used this mehtod yet but from what I have heard this method shoudl work really well.

  69. How can I incorporate a lesson each day? For example, in what part of the schedule should I do a lesson?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Wait, I am very confused. If you do this do you do all of that every day. How long do you train in each disipline every day. Its probably obvious but...

    ReplyDelete
  71. This sucks who wants to wait so long

    ReplyDelete
  72. And now it gets complicated..
